A visit to a longhouse is often the highlight of a trip to Sarawak, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of various tribes who have for generations lived in the remote interior or Borneo. The journey from Kuching takes 232km by road passing padi field, rubber plantations, pepper orchards, villages, roadside town and virgin jungles.
Depart Kuching City in the early morning for an overland journey along the Pan Borneo Highway before diverting to the Lemanak River to the Iban Longhouse. Explore and visit the longhouse where you will see among many things such as human skulls, hanging from the rafters, antique Chinese jars dated back hundred of years. Taste a local food "tuak" - local rice wine and mingle with the longhouse dwellers to learn and Iban word or two or just relax by the riverbank to enjoy natures 'sights, sounds and smells.
Late afternoon, return journey back to Kuching.
